ACTIVITY REPORT

PHONEO 2022 Association

PHONEO ASSOCIATION carried out its projects in 2022 with a team of 19 employees and over 30 volunteers.

The projects have expanded to several cities in the country and, starting with 2022, also outside its borders. Cluj-Napoca remains the central point of the association’s activities.

  • PHONEO gathered several associations with various fields of action at its headquarters on Decebal Street in Cluj-Napoca. 10 NGOs moved their headquarters, workplaces or projects there. This collaboration led to various achievements:
  • More than 3,000 days and nights of accommodation were spent for people from different areas of the country, who came to Cluj for cancer treatment. This project (made by Casa Filip) includes not only accommodation and meals, but also emotional support.
  • More than 1,000 days and nights of support, shelter and guidance were offered to young people who left state foster care centers at the age of 18, to provide them with a model and the independence needed to move forward in life safely.
  • Over 60 meetings and support groups were organized, both for cancer patients and their families. The participants learned to smile, love each other and look towards the future with optimism.
  • PHONEO provided more than 1,200 meals to refugees, with financial support from partner companies.
  • The community space has hosted various meetings for the Ukrainian community in Cluj, including business meetings for those who have decided to develop their own businesses here, social meetings and free spaces for setting up new companies’ headquarters.
  • PHONEO initiated a free tailoring workshop for Ukrainian women.
  • “Healing Point” was established on the first floor of the building, offering development, healing and transformation for the mind and soul through coaching, therapy, psychology and support groups. This space was made available to the partner associations, and seven professionals (Romanians, Americans and Ukrainians) hold individual and group sessions.
  • We opened the “Meeting Point CLUB” with the aim of providing support and development for children, teenagers and adults, with the intention of uniting the young Romanian-Ukrainian community.
  • The “Meeting Point” band was formed, made up of seven talented teenagers (four Ukrainians and three Romanians), the rehearsal place being here. This musical band was born from the passion for music and the desire to help young Ukrainians to feel integrated in the Romanian community and to channel their energy into a constructive activity.
  • Two “Friends” groups for personal development and self-knowledge were established for pre-adolescents and adolescents, to offer them a model and help them gain the independence necessary to move forward in life safely.
  • In the basement of the building, the “Coffee Z Club” was inaugurated, addressed to teenagers. This initiative created opportunities for young people and events to their liking.
  • “Therapy Point” was launched unplanned, offering space for physical recovery under the guidance of a Ukrainian professional. It primarily benefits cancer patients staying at PHONEO.
  • More than 50 events addressed to people with physical disabilities were organized under the guidance of the partner association Campionii Celesti.
  • The space has hosted fund-raising meetings for PHONEO partners’ projects, cultural events, meetings with the soul families of children from foster care centers and training courses.
  • The central warehouse for humanitarian transports sent to Ukraine operated here.
  • PHONEO opened the doors of the “HAN FULLTON” hotel. This initiative was implemented to financially support some of the actions and projects detailed previously.
  • PHONEO supported and organized 51 humanitarian transports to Ukraine, worth over 233,000 euros (aid for mayors, hospitals, churches, vulnerable children and NGOs in the country).
  • As a partner of “Global Hope,” PHONEO contributed substantially to the first accredited orphanage in Romania, opened in March 2022 for Ukrainian orphans. It is called the “Nehemiah Children’s Home” and is located in the village of Prod in Sibiu, hosting 28 Ukrainian children who managed to escape the horrors of the war and found real support from the local team.
  • In Sibiu, over 300 refugees received food, medical and shelter assistance.
  • PHONEO supported the costs of four summer camps for refugee children, teenagers and adults.
  • In Cluj, more than 1,500 days and nights of accommodation were offered to refugees who fled the war in Ukraine, starting with the third day after the outbreak of the conflict (a project entirely managed by PHONEO). In addition to accommodation, each of them benefited from extensive support from the team.
  • PHONEO has created the necessary framework (Ukrainian-Romanian team and appropriate spaces) to offer therapy and psychological counseling to refugees.
  • In 2022, PHONEO celebrated 10 years since it first arrived in the village of Comsesti, in Cluj county. Education and the change of mentality, soul and perspectives are essential to bring about fundamental transformations in the Roma community in this village. PHONEO bought a plot of land for these people a few years ago, and in 2022, after a lot of work and involvement, inaugurated the center built especially for them. This center offers educational programs, after-school and material support for children and adults in the community.
  • PHONEO purchased, renovated and inaugurated a historical building in Sibiu, called “Wesleyan Community Center.” This space is ideal for:

    • “Ascendent,” a professional training center dedicated to teenagers who have to leave placement centers at the age of 18. Here they receive support and opportunities for integration into the labor market, as well as educational and development programs.
    • Social and emotional support for socially vulnerable people.
    • Meetings with businessmen or influential people who want to get involved in society, building a bridge between them and different social sectors.
    • Programs regarding work ethics, leadership courses and various support groups.
    • The chapel called “Light from Light,” a place open to everyone.
  • PHONEO continued its partnership with the “Global Hope” association from Sibiu. “Casa Bucuriei” is a placement center and a maternity home that hosts, supports and brings long-term joy to 18 children.
  • In 2022, PHONEO became the partner of the Swiss Guido Fluri Foundation in the pan-European project “Justice Initiative,” which aims to restore justice for victims of child abuse in Europe, uniting 16 EU member states. PHONEO is their partner for Romania.
  • In 2022, the realization of a dream that PHONEO had for over ten years began. PHONEO crossed paths with two people living in Kenya (Esayas of Ethiopian origin and Violeta of Romanian origin) who love the locals and take action to help their communities. As a first step in the first year, PHONEO provided a “financial incentive” to 10 small entrepreneurs, especially women, in the Meru region. In addition, they purchased food, awarded school scholarships and even gave a goat to a Kenyan father, serving as a test case for a larger project in the making. Part of the PHONEO team will travel to Kenya in January 2023 to establish robust support and development programmes.

8. The U-RISE project

  • European, PHONEO has entered into a partnership for the next two years with six universities and NGOs from the Netherlands, Croatia, Slovakia, Italy and Luxembourg. This partnership aims to establish a network of psychologists and social workers to provide real psychological support to at least 750 refugees.
  • PHONEO’s 2022 Activity Report highlights these achievements and projects, showing the organization’s commitment to making a positive impact locally and globally.
